Weather Station Coming to the Lighthouse

Dan Hanson (son of New Harbor couple Chuck and Paula Hanson) is graciously donating a weather station to the town to be installed at the Lighthouse Park. The station will make accurate weather data available on the Internet. Upon learning of Dan's donation, we asked him if there was anything the Association members could do to participate in the project. He replied by suggesting that donations would be appreciated to cover the cost of a second console to be placed in the town's new "Learning Center." This is the new building on the right as you enter the park. (More information on the Learning Center) This console will make weather data available to all visitors of the Center. Additionally, some networking equipment is required to connect the station to the Internet. Mark and I went out on a limb and pledged $200 towards this end; believing that we could get enough donors interested to help us cover it.

The weather data will also be made available in various forms on the Pemaquid Point Association website. A page of weather data, updated every few minutes will be maintained on the site and a realtime data stream will also be available. Also, historical data, including rainfall, etc. will be available. The software associated with the weather station can also notify us via an automatically generated email when a preset alarm level is exceeded. For example, Association members who wish to so notified could have an email sent to them when a wind gust exceeds, say, 40 mph.

Installation of the weather station is expected by Spring, 2009.

Some technical information: The weather equipment to being donated is the Davis Vantage Pro 2 Plus wireless. The software is the same as is currently posting weather data on this New Harbor station website. Real time data will also be available to Association members using free software from Thunderhead Technologies.

We have received sufficient donations to cover the $200.
